  1. Regarding la Rambla, the reason it is so popular is simply because it actually was a very popular spot amongst the locals. Having some relatives living there, I have been going to Barcelona since the 1990's, and we used to walk from Plaça Catalunya all the way to the harbour all the time. We usually bought a newspaper there and sometimes stopped at la Boqueria to get some ham or cheese.
Unfortunately, since the 2010's decade, la Rambla has become very "Disneylandified" i would say. Walking there isn't particularly pleasant now.

There is however one thing that IS actually worthy in la Rambla, and that's the Carrefour supermarket located on the upper side. It is a very convenient way to get groceries whilst in the city centre – and although it is more catered to tourists, they still have the decency to have the same prices as in any other Carrefour Market (yes, I did check for some products).
But yes, aside from this – definitely shop and eat somewhere else.

  2. When I visited Barcelona, the nearest tube station was Arc de Triomf…..the gangs of pickpockets there were out of hand.

They hang about outside, on the platforms and on tubes…..they'll surround you, nudge you… all the while the others are trying to get to your pockets and bags.

I was fed up with by day 2, and just shouted Pickpockets, they soon dispersed….they didn't bother me after that.

  3. Another (uncomfortable) thing that I recomend you as a local; that people aren't. So, if some random guy that doesn't look like a local goes to you for some random reason, just run.

  4. Well I understand people, mostly tourist need to be reminded of the increes possibilities of beeig rubed in large, busy cities. It happens everywhere, not only Barcelona, not only Spa, not only Europe.. You tell me in London or Manchester this does not happen? Or in New York, Chicago? Or Mexico City? And mentioning Paris and Rome, don't put Barcelona in top capitals cause it's not the capital, and in not just capitals, it's Rome, Milan, Napoli…
The point is more people more money, more thieves

  5. I can shamefully admit that I fell for the "magnet vibration" scam when I was in Barcelona. They are indeed just some stupid pieces of paper when you reach home and realize they are not "vibrating" anymore. The scammer tells you they are vibrating when you put them close to a speaker, because of the magnet from inside the speaker, but I think on the street they attach them to some very thin strings that are invisible. So there's no magnetic magic, just some people to fool. My bad for being so naive, but beware.

  6. I got so sick of the "where are you from" that I started saying Vanuatu. Works wonders in Europe. They just look at you as if thinking, how do I connect with that, and walk away.

  7. I came back from madrid today and last day i met the fake police asking for my id. Luckily i got rid of them after argueing with them for 15 mins. I hate spain and spanish people. Not going there again!

  8. I live in Barcelona and it is all true. IF YOU EVER GET YOUR WALLET OR BAG STOLEN, CHECK EVERY BIN OR TRASH CONTAINER NEAR BY, YOUR WALLET WILL VERY LIKELY BE THERE. of course, no cash inside. but your documents are more valuable.

  9. Barcelona is definitely one of the worst place I've been too. I'm not talking about the scenery, architecture and beach. I'm talking about the people in general. So much scams, robbery, tourist traps, everywhere. It's crazy. As a kid, I always wanna move there but when I got there, in a couple of days I know it's not for me. So many hungry people, and when I say hungry I mean people who wanna get into your wallet. Be careful getting drug in one of those shady places. I've known so many people waking up with less than 10k, 20k in there bank accounts.

  10. Im really verry worried right now… So many things you have to be aware of .. I will travel soon so i have to be aware.. I hope that i will be able to enjoy my stay at least // Thank you for the advises

  11. ALL these scammers are not Spanish ! Only there to easily get money from tourists. That’s sad and you can find these organized system in most of European cities receiving tourists…

  12. He is right, we were scammed by the coconut man who took photos for us and offered two pieces of coconuts and asked four euros from us. I paid two euros to get rid of him at the park.

  13. So true! The pickpockets almost got my bag in Barcelona but I survived! They work in the team- while one person would ask you to click his pic, another one would steal your bag/belongings! I almost grabbed his hand while he was trying to steal my but phucker ran away!
