  1. Evenepool??? 😂 you realize he has not even FINISHED a GT right? Don't think he has what it takes to win a GT (at least at this point in his career) he's been blown away in hilly 1wk tour 🙄I want to know where you got the wacky tobaccy you're on dood… it's either the really bad stuff or the really good stuff 😂

  2. will be interesting to see how exactly Quintana plans to argue in CAS. I can't think of any possible winning strategy. He claims to have never used tramadol in his entire career, but just denying use when both A & B samples are positive is not a winning strategy. Dried blood test methodology is pretty sound (Salamin et al 2020 "Is pain temporary and glory forever? Detection of tramadol using dried blood spot in cycling competitions"). Is he going to argue someone slipped it into his food? That's not going to win either. He could argue against the UCI rule, but UCI should be able to win that one easily based on the side effects

  3. I am sorry, but I have very hard time to trust in Evenepole pulling off GC in GrandTour. In my eyes he is lacking some important components that are needed to 3 weeks physical and mental torture on the bike. Listing some: tactics, ability to make quick clever decisions when opportunity arise in the race aka racing IQ, consistency, mental strength and coolness, climbing big time with top dogs 3rd week in the race…etc.
I agree the guy has huge engine and is super strong, but that is not enough for GrandTour. He may win it is some special circumstances if many things go his way and many against his competitors, but in normal scenario, I can’t see him winning.
That being said, none of it is written in the stone and past showed us many many unlikely winners. I guess, what I want to say is, that when comes to GC, I can see him in the same basket as Primoz, Jonas, Tadej or Egan. Not even close.
Thanks Chris and looking forward as you take us through LaVuelta! ✌️❤️

  4. Chris, before ketone comments, you’re an American legend. I lined up behind you as a 23 year old at Altoona, you on Webcor and was in awe. Think we crashed together with Nathan O’Neil on stage 2. I’m now in medicine-my question about ketones is less about training than racing. Can you spare glycogen stores early in a race for increased performance at Km 200? And can you take ketones at km 170-190 to drill the finishing climb at km 200 or 250 if it’s worlds. I think the answer is yes. Interesting note, I ride 5 hours a week now with hormone replacement causing a 5% hematocrit bump from baseline. My FTP is >100 watts less than when I was “clean” and training. It’s marginal for sure. Love your show. Keep it up.

  5. I took Tramadol a few years ago when I was recovering from a broken colarbone. Obviously I wasn't training, but each time I took it, it just knocked me out. Definitely not performance enhancing, in my experience.

  6. CORRECTION: Quintana has not “banned”.. can’t be, because Tramadol not on WADA list. His TdF result has been disqualified and his result ‘vacated’ based on the Tramadol positive, which is within UCI’s ability to do independently. Think Vos getting DQ'd for "puppy paws".. same idea.. broke a cycling specific rule and was DQ'd!

  7. I don't see the point of taking products that are less unhealthy. In my eyes that is still dope in itself.
The win after an escape from 30 km by Evenepoel didn't convince me, at a point they came back to 30sec., than they didn't cooperate anymore… There are many who win that way. Still i hope that Evenepoel will grow ripe this tour, it would extent the riche generation we have.

  8. A great post Mr. Horner. But again, like at the Giro with Simon Yates, you seems to be choosing your GC favorites based on their potential best results, and not computing into the overall equation their team's strengths & weaknesses over a 3-weeks Grand Tour.
For Remco and Quick-Step, his teammates are: J. Alaphilippe, R. Cavagna, D. Devenyns, F. Masnada, P. Serry, I. Van Wilder, and L. Vervaeke. NONE of them are pure top-30 Climbeurs! And this year’s Vuelta includes 7 stages with an uphill finish (hence for the true GC boys & teams: stages *6 / *8 / *9 / *12 /*14 /*15 / *18).
Only a big Climbeurs’ team will get close to the Red Jersey! Heck, I have more confinence in Movistar than Quick-Step for La Vuelta!
Again for the Vuelta: prove me wrong in Madrid; Movistar will have a higher standing than Quick Step.

  9. Chris; one last thought. Thymen Arensman ('Eagle Man') has been given the 'freedom' to see what he can do. he'll try for GC he said; It's his first GT so it's a bit of a 'test' so to speak. Young guy; good time trial; we'll see. Oh; and Olav Kooij won again in Denmark; his second stage win and 11th of the season. Flat stage today; Ollie going for the hattrick!

  10. Chris; just so you know. Jumbo-Visma has just signed the most underrated grand tour bike-racer and that's Wilco Kelderman. I'm sure you can find all the details but watch out for him in the next 2-3 years; he has a GT podium in him!! Btw; they also signed Dylan van Baarle so there's that!

  11. As always, thank you for your insights, Chris. This is (by far) the best analysis/comment we fans can find. And we also appreciate your 'interactions' with us! Tip: Since Sepp Kuss lives (virtually) in Spain and he won that Andorra-Tour-stage last year… pencil him in for another stage win here in the Vuelta!

  12. I need to see it first to believe… one day race like san sebastian sure…but over 3 weeks is different beast and we saw him fail in april and also last year giro he messed up Almeida. Basically I don't trust him…my choice is still Primož, Billy Carapaz or Simon.

  13. Definitely would like to know the results of the ketones and the effect on your Masters training. Will be watching you 9n the B.E. everyday for the next few weeks. Thanks as always Chris.

  14. Lets see what Remco can do!! I'm probably in the doubters camp at the moment but would love to see him take the GC, gain that extra level and be up for the TDF fight in the years to come (along with Bernal hopefully). As for the Ketones, can it be done in collaboration with others, sports scientists or a local research/university team? As long as you do it safely then why not.

  15. If you want to talk about ketones you should look up Peter Hespel and Quick Step anno 2019. You'll need a partner to test both regimes (1. before/during exercise and 2. during recovery)

  16. Paul Miller
Good coverage Chris, good listening to an experienced voice and no bullshit, always watched you closely throughout your races and liked your style. Extremely interested on the ketone feedback from you. I am a former australian road champion and World masters road champion, raced in Europe extensively, predominantly Belgium and Italy. Raced national championships of America, lemond was in my group across the finishing line, hard race, we scaled Manayunk wall about 17 times! If i remember correctly!, there were showers?sprinklers at the top of Manayunk to cool us down each lap🥵, i flew with an Italian team from Italy to compete.

  17. Would be amazing to see what your master's training is looking like Chris. And an honest review of any potential performance enhancing product that the pros are utilising would be great as well. 🦋

  18. Oh YES Chris!!! Can’t wait for the keytones videos – should be wild 😄 then we just need a Masters TdF with all the old hitters back in action and life will be complete! Even Cippolini is still flying around Gran Fondos these days 😜

  19. I get the feeling that Remco is not a GC rider. He seems too chunky and his climbing position on the bike is not fluid or natural enough to sustain in the big climbs with the top climbers for 3 weeks. He doesn't seem to be able to sustain the power required to last one tough mountain day. He seems to struggle in the heat in the mountains as well. I think we will eventually see Remco become a classics and TT specialist. Also, way too much pressure on his young shoulders from the Belgian fans and press, referring to him as the next Merckx. Totally unfair pressure, leave the guy have fun on the bike at least.

  20. Do people who say R.E. isn't a GC favourite even know cycling?….. He has all the attributes to be a competitive in the GC more than equal to Simon Yates and he has a Vuelta title. There may be reasons WHY eg team support/cracks etc (if) he doesn't eventually win, but he certainly has the all round ability to be in the mix enough to be considered a serious contender for the overall.

  21. 9:15 that was told in the lanterne rouge Pod cast and is a study that was not take part in 3 week races and not all subjects are pro riders, every time this papers leak like this is to cause shade … I recall the same user in lanterne rouge an my answer is this fish smells funny and not funny LOL is funny funky way, do you recall the past years medical raid against arkea and nairo, call me a conspiracy theorist but isn't courios that again arkea again nairo and we have teams is the relegation race that have 'beef' against Arkea and quintana… well I think nairo might played well backing up just singed a 3 more years deal to arkea the fight is for the team I guess nairo is a true team player in and out the saddle.
