The Blue Division – Spanish Volunteers on the Eastern Front (División Azul) – Spain in WWII

Spain and World War II. During the Second World War around 45,000 Spanish volunteers fought on the Eastern Front. These men had joined the Blue Division (División Azul) and many were veterans of the Spanish Civil War in which Nationalists led by Francisco Franco proclaimed victory over the Republicans. Why did Spain not join Hitler in the war against the Soviet Union as an Axis power? Why did Spain send an army of Spaniards to the USSR to fight communism there?

  1. I guess no country in World War II was neutral, and I think during that time, everyone had a pretty good grasp that they couldn’t stay neutral. Sweden wasn’t neutral, it was non belligerent but it was pro allies, same for Switzerland. Spain wasn’t neutral, it was non belligerent but it was pro axis. It’s not neutral when you favor any of the sides in a conflict.

  2. The vikings tried to invade No.Spain and their buts kicked.King Otto came back(king of the Vikings)and got his butt kicked, nuff said.Of course Spain(and other European knights ) had been fighting the Muslims for a long time so the vikings were out matched by superior fighting men than they were used to.

  3. Many Spaniards are Sephardic Jews.
Why do you think they had the largest empire ?
The Americas is an extension of Jewish people's.
Why do you think Europe is so advanced ?
Why do you think the BIG APPLE and the WINDY CITY have the largest buildings ?
The Jews invented money. The Italians invented prostitution. The Mexicans invented the cigerette.
    LOL

  4. The individual motivation of those who joined the Waffen SS has always been interesting too me . It is of interest Expecially in these times. At least the Spanish showed little interest in the extreme measures of there allies. I thank you for your research !

  6. Well, if clearly displaying the Roman Eagle isnt enough, then look at the Religious symbols or follow the Bloodlines
We live in the Holy Roman Empire and Religion is satanic.
Did you know that having others govern over you and tell you lies of religion actually makes you their slave? It does not make anyone free. Never has. You can't be free and "also" be governed
The Spanish and the Portuguese created "South" America in the name of the Holy Roman Empire. Just more Nazism

  7. Before the Falklands War UK-generals said something like: "if the Argentines are descended from the Spaniards the war will be hard and bloody, if they are descended from the Italians it will be a matter of a few days."

  8. fascism was a Southern European view of the world from Italy to Spain and Latin America. And now fascism is the only European view of the world. But seen through the eyes the dominant culture distorted

  9. You made a mistake. Franco didn't reject taking part in WWII, Hitler didn't allow it. That was because Franco demanded a lot of things and he didn't have to much to offer. There's historical quotes about Hitler insulting Franco for his impudence.

I would also like to let people know that spanish republicans who were exilied in France fought with the allies and were the first ones to enter in Paris with "La Nueve" division. Not everyone was a fascist in Spain

  10. In fact, have been Spanish soldiers fighting on both sides (URSS side too). And don't fight directly in the second war was because Spain was destroyed by the civil war, a war where took part Germany and URSS probed new war toys.

  11. Nice video. Very insightful. Maybe you’ve talked about it before but if not you should research “La Nueve” as a counterpart of la División Azul. The 9th Company, embodied by Republican veterans, fought alongside the Allies and were key in the liberation of Paris. Many haven’t even heard of them and back then they were mistaken for US soldiers because of their uniforms and equipments. In essence, both sides did their part in WWII.

  12. The USSR had also helped the Republican communists (which eventually took over the other republican factions) in the civil war, so it was perfect for the ministry of propaganda to use it as an excuse to call the population on arms
4:21 here says 'Russia is to blame for our civil war and for the death of José Antonio (founder of the Falange and shot by the republicans)'

  13. Sending Spaniards to the Leningrad front to suffer the Russian winter was a very bad idea. They should have sent them to the south, the same as Italians or Romanians. They were not very motorized either and had the same low preparation in "motorized warfare". Anyway, in the Spanish Civil War, both circumstances occurred, motorized warfare and "polar" conditions. In the battles of Teruel and Alfambra, for example.
The German disrespect towards the Spanish soldier remains in its forms, in appearance, it does not reach its essence, which is that of being historically one of the best infantry ever.
Another episode of the Second World War that demonstrates this is Bir Hakeim. Where Spanish soldiers, veterans of the civil war enlisted in the Free French Army, stopped an Rommel´s offensive.

  14. Spain was never fascist, the fascist party didn't even made it to the parliament while the republic shameful period, the coup at spain was lead by a diverse coalition of forces…

"Fascist Spain" is just Soviet propaganda created to destroy the country which slayed communism at his land and later send soldiers to fight solely the soviets, hence helping the nazis.
