Across the south of New Jersey, there are 1.1 million acres of pine forest. From the northern part of Ocean Country down to Cape May, the Pinelands National Reserve occupied 22% of the state’s land area and is the largest body of open space on the Mid-Atlantic Seaboard between Moston and Richmond. Additionally, 45 percent of the region, or around 493,000 acres, are owned by the public. However, a part of this reserve is of particular note, sourcing several urban legends such as the Jersey devil. This is the story of the New Jersey Pine Barrens.

  1. Mother Leeds never married Mr Leeds never gave birth to the 13th baby .Mr Leeds died 20 years before hence no devil . Deborah his supposedly wife never married him and dig into research you will find it's true and no one seems to go through the historical records to find the truth. No mother Leeds no marriage to Mr Leeds no 13th devil baby .

  2. I'm a witch as well as a medium. When I went to the Batso village and immediately felt a man . I actually will be uploading a video going to the leeds home. There's more places I'd love to go! Lived in nj my whole life

  3. My name is Conover and in history Conover’s and Leeds were married putting my family in the middle of this. I have heard strange noises like yelling or howling. All far off in the woods. I just tell the stories and say that we are related to the folklore. The kids have loved it since first trip to the pines. My dad would say he was a piney from his head to his hinny. I love it. I grew up in Cardiff, Pomona, port republic, Conover town and area. I love this post. I have the Ancestry showing Conover and Leeds married but nothing about the Jersey devil is mentioned I don’t think. I would love to find out.

  4. Yo It's History is a fellow based South Jersian?!?!?! King, also I agree there's a good chance something like that could exist, I've also seen and felt weird things in my 21 years of going in and out of the Pines so I'm not gonna say yes or no but I'm leaning towards yes.

  5. My friend and his wife bought some land and built a house where there was a glass factory explosion in Atco nj.
She has a huge collection of really cool glass that she finds around the property

  6. Spent lots of times in the Pines around Lakehurst, late night and around cranberry bogs. Saw the Jersey Devil 3 times, all sober. Explained what i saw to someone one day years later. He asked if i was sure it wasnt a black bear. It was black bears.

  7. My grandpop told me of couple times is father saw the jersey devil once. And he told me when he was growing up in marlton. They hard something scraping up their neighbors home and when they went outside they saw claw marks going up the side of the house and these weren't normal animal claw marks. That story still gives me chills today this day and I'm 39 now.

  8. I was on a show called Destination America I had an encounter with the Jersey devil. I was shocked by the cab driver story almost the same thing happened to me. It pounced on the hood of my car! I was deep in the woods u know the trails like the back of my hand. I was in the woods shooting my new gun it was early in the morning around 2 AM after shooting the gun about 3 to 4 times I heard something in the top of the trees it caught my attention it literally sounded like something running on the top of the trees and then I heard wings giant wings flapping I will tell the truth I was so scared I literally Peed my pants the next thing I know I heard a loud screech I looked up and I can actually see its body in the moonlight I got so scared I jumped into my car once I turn my car on it died my car was only four months old brand new off the lot it took me multiple times to try to start my vehicle again it finally started once it started and I try to pull off the next thing I know I heard a loud bang on the hood of my car I was so scared I just put the car in drive and started praying I’ve always said I want to go back and find out what that was I know what I saw it had read piercing eyes I’ve never seen anything like that in my life and it is even more amazing that my story actually matches what that cab driver went through

  9. Listen, I live in the Asbury Park area of the Jersey Shore and I’ve driven through the Pine Barrens before. I was headed to Atlantic City for my little brother’s bachelor party and I didn’t want to take the parkway. I ended up on the two-lane highway in Ocean County and I noticed the trees began to look different. The tress were tall and dense. I was so shook that I hurried up and got out of there lol

That episode of The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest where they were driving through the Pine Barrens might have added to the fear ??

  10. I've been in those woods multiple times, it's an off feeling in some area's. I've heard a ton of unnatural noises back there. That place at night is very creepy. I live in NJ by the way, would love to hear your encounter story. Because I have a few myself.
