  1. As an American I know we’ll probably never even make it out of the pools at the World Cup until well after I’m dead, but if we can make Two Cents’ whiteboard consistently I’ll be a very happy man.

  2. if I was a wagering chap – and I'm not; I know way too little to be betting on International Rugby – I'd wager that three of the top 6 teams in the July 11 rankings will be ranking 1-2-3 at the 2023 RWC. I won't niggle over the precise positions in the rankings, but I'd be surprised to see any side not in those top six positions taking one of the three medal slots at the 2023 RWC.

    I would say International
Rugby union is in a fairly good place things can always improve
though I always believe no matter what subject we are talking about things can always be improved upon.

I think domestic rugby in general no matter where we are talking about in the world has plenty of room for improvement.

I dont honestly think anyone can disagree with France being number 1 in the rankings.

    For me I would say
    1 : France
    2 : South Africa
    3 : Nrw Zealand
    4 : Ireland
    5 : Scotland
    6 : England
    7 : Australia
    8 : Argentina
    9 : Wales
    10 : Fiji
    11 : Gorgia
    12 : Japan
    13 : Manu Samoa
    14 : Italy
    15 : Spain
    16 : Portugal.

    That would be my rankings
    at this point in time.

But we need to get more country's playing rugby union fully professionally if the game is to grow .

I feel the game in The U.S.A at International level is going backwards & getting worse the same with Canada & Romania.

I think a lot of the South American & African country's need more funding from Would Rugby to help the game grow.

    Keep Safe.

  4. Little mention for Algerian rugby team. Rankings, they were the biggest movers I think they jumped 10 places !
They were awesome in the African cup and I see them challenging teams like Namibia in the near future.
The Algerian team is a young federation created only in 2007 and joined world rugby in 2019.
They had many French born players of Algerian descent in their team. And after that Africa cup performance beating Zimbabwe and losing by just 3 points to Kenya, I can see them attracting many French players who won't get picked for the French team because competition is fierce.
The Algerian team punching above their weight speaks volumes about how good French coaching is. A team to watch out for, in the near future, for sure.

  5. I am very happy for the french team but i don't think that they are yet the number one. For me they need to prouve themselves this autumn against South Africa. And a victory is also expected against Australia. If they do that they should be number one at the end of year and i will consider that it is a fully legitimate position.

  6. Maybe one thing we've learned from that weekend is that Japan should be treated as a NH nation and no game should be played there in the summer at all… 40 degrees outside and a humidity rate close to 100%, these are absurd conditions to play rugby in ?

  7. I think there's a clearly defined top 4 in the world at the moment. The rankings show that essentially the home team would be favourites in any game between them which sounds about right.

  8. Great analysis, I think you are the only person doing commentaries on all these internationals including tier 2 and development countries. I hope you keep doing it.
I copped a lot of flak last week as an ABs fan for saying Ireland were going to bounce back, but I snuck a cheeky twenty on them at $5.80.
With all four big trans-hemisphere series going to deciders, and all of them could go either way, this is one of the biggest weekends in world rugby ever outside World Cups.
As much as I always want NZ to win, it's great to see so much genuine competition. Any of the top 9 countries can beat any other team now, even away from home – it's what I've always wanted to see as a rugby fan. Next years world cup is going to be wild.

  9. Maaaate. I watched that Georgia v Italy match and it was a cracker. The atmosphere was so good I texted an English mate and said if they get into the 6 Nations we've gotta go see England v Georgia over in Batumi. I haven't seen a rugby crowd like that in a long time. Fireworks on the field and off at the end. The Georgian fullback is class. Love what you do and keep it up and we'll see you on The Breakdown in the not too distant future.

  10. My fellow South Africans won't like it, but the Bokke held on to number 1 for a whole year without playing a single match, nor could they get points taken for the B&I Lions games. Also the French deserve that number 1spot. As much as I like the ABs, they're pretty rudder less under Fozzie, so that ranking is also fair.

  11. It would make so much more sense to seed the teams for the RWC after the July internationals one year before the tournament. France definitely deserve to be number 1.

  12. I would put Ireland as no.1, france have played easier opposition over the last year and are currently playing a series v japan, so no wonder theyre on a winning streak. The game between the two in the six nations was close, but Frances first try was forward, nobody seems to recall and the game was also in paris. Ireland for me are the team to beat.

  13. As a french fan, ir's a bit weird, almost ironic that France should get the number 1 spot on the back of what many even some players consider as their worst performance in years. We would have felt much better if this spot had been reached after the grand slam, it's about consistency i guess, but somehow bittersweet.

  14. Well done to France, a worthy no 1. Would prefer if the Boks were there but they’re clearly not the top at the moment. Good times for rugby watching. Cheers for the update!

  15. I'm a Springbok but it is kinda weird to see the abs at 4th….The all b coach was not happy with that red card……I say no more…..This just means that the door stands wide open for at least 8- 10 teams to prove that they can take the web Ellis cup…..Scary for us Southern hemisphere teams teams but obviously awesome for the game.

  16. Tbh I don't think rankings are a huge deal. First time France are number 1? They've been a reliable side for ages. 3 years ago Ireland were 1 and it was the worst thing that ever happened to them. Sa was 1 for ages without playing any games and have now rolled down like a sledge after one game. It does keep things interesting though. First time nz are 4? Jesus what an accolade

  17. Exciting times for for rugby in the world! Some great upsets! The crowds were phenomenal.

    Hate losing to Wales though.

Ireland is making a habit of beating the ABs and still exciting to see. Dower old Farrel must smile a little more.

  18. Surely the fairest reflection of the actual World standings! Ever!!!
As far as the state of the worlds Rugby, it seems most of the naysayers are the people who's teams are losing the hegemony they've virtually always enjoyed!
On that topic, did you see Jeff Wilson bleating about, well, just about everything! Great to see a man so deluded and blinkered, he thinks the AB's should be No.1!…….
You know things are good when a high profile ex AB agrees with Eddie Jones about how "Bad" things are! PMSL!!!
It surely proves the game's heading in the right direction!
