Cycling Tour de Spain 2004 part 2

Tour de Spain 2004

The 59th Vuelta a España (Tour of Spain), a long-distance bicycle stage race and one of the three grand tours, was held from 4 September to 26 September 2004. It consisted of 21 stages covering a total of 2,925 km (1,818 mi), and was won by Roberto Heras of the Liberty Seguros cycling team.

Halfway through the 2004 Vuelta, it appeared it would become an easy win for Heras, but in the last week his fellow countryman Santiago Pérez won two heavy mountain stages, thus becoming an important rival. Eventually Heras won with only 30 seconds advantage on Pérez. Pérez and Phonak hearing systems teammate Tyler Hamilton would later test positive for blood doping from blood samples taken during the race. Francisco Mancebo, also from Spain took third. The first non-Spaniard was Stefano Garzelli from Italy in 11th. The points jersey was won by Erik Zabel from Germany, the mountain jersey was won by Félix Cárdenas from Colombia and the combination jersey was won by Roberto Heras. Kelme was the winner of the team ranking. Alessandro Petacchi, an Italian sprinter won four stages, but he didn’t finish the Vuelta.

12 REASONS WHY THE CHANNEL ISLAND OF JERSEY IS SUCH AN AWESOME BRITISH ISLES HOLIDAY DESTINATION

I’ve recently got back from the fabulous Channel Island of Jersey where we had SUCH an awesome time that I wanted to share with you 12 reasons why this is such a brilliant British Isles holiday destination and not to be missed. It’s got amazing beaches, food and activities like kayaking, cycling and paddle boarding all in stunning scenery where the sand is so white, the sea is so blue and the rocks are tinged red. Food is also delicious here – we ate yummy mussels (at El Tico Beach Cantina) , crab tacos (at the Crab Shack in St. Brelade’s Bay) and 12-hour slow-cooked beef brisket (at BJ’s Brewery and Smokehouse). Every dish was SO tasty and memorable. There’s no such thing as a bad meal in Jersey. Then there’s real Jersey ice-cream which HAS to be tasted and real Jersey money (the island has its own currency) to be spent. There are great hikes, castles (we visited Mont Orgueil castlle) and potatoes. Jersey is famous for its Jersey Royals. And capital St. Helier is not to be missed either – it’s got a really French feel about it (it’s close to France and used to be owned by France). And you can’t leave without visiting the War Tunnels either – Jersey was occupied by the Germans during World War 2 and these tunnels were built by the Germans as their HQ and now its been turned into a living history museum, showing how the islanders survived and died during the war. And voila, 12 good reasons why the Channel Island of Jersey is such an awesome British Isles holiday destination and not to be missed!

La Vuelta 2021 Stage 1 Highlights | First Red Jersey Up For Grabs!

The Vuelta a España kicked off with a TT stage in Burgos, a perfect stage for the likes of Primoz Roglic and Jan Tratnik to battle it out for the red jersey. A short TT of 7.1km, the route started inside the famous Cathedral of Saint Mary of Burgos before approaching two climbs, one at 5% and the other at 7.1% for just over a kilometer. Packing quite the punch on the first day of the Grand Tour – the race remains flat for the descent back towards the Cathedral where the winner of stage 1 of the The Vuelta a España will be decided.

La Vuelta 2021 Stage 2 Highlights | Sprinters Battle For Green Jersey

The second day of The Vuelta a España and it seems like this may be a day for the sprinters. An inland stage that is probably one of the flattest stages in this year’s Vuelta a España, a sprint finish seems certain, with the likes of Jasper Philipsen and Fabio Jakobsen trying to put a dent in the points classification. However, a ramp not far from the end could see some latent attacks that could result in an exciting finish.

World Road Cycling Championships 2005 – Tom Boonen takes the rainbow jersey

Tom Boonen epic 2005 season ended with him becoming World Champion. The men’s elite race was held on Sunday September 25, 2005 in Madrid, Spain, over a total distance of 273 kilometers. It was not a very hard route, but the riders made it hard. The Danish rider Jakob Piil was in almost every break away and was very very strong. Alejandro Valverde, Paolo Bettini and Philippe Gilbert was also among the riders that tried to make the race. But in the end it all came down to a sprint. Despite his efforts in the race Jakob still managed to becom 6th in the sprint. But the win was a duel between Alejandro Valverde and Tom Boonen. In 2005 Boonen could not loose, and won the sprint and took the rainbow jersey home, home to his green jersey and his cobblestone from the same season.
Danish commentary.
