Your button up shirt is my cardigan. I love a good cardigan.
Hi- What Brand are your black trousers? Thanks!
The classic Button up has a lot of dramatic straight lines around the face. If you are not a Kibbe type that xan handle this "drama", you will not like it.
Finding out my Kibbe type helped a lot, but I have yet to find out my three words
Alyssa, I thank you so much for showing not only different body types but also ages when you so the example photos. I'm over 60 but still love looking chic, and I continue to learn when it comes to fashion. This was a wonderful video as you broaden the categories and take the essentials out of the expected. The button up shirt part was especially enlightening. I love the idea and look of a crisp white shirt but actually hardly ever reach for it, daunted by the ironing and potential for staining. Instead, I live in my loose linen shirts in summer. Both are light blue, one icy, the other less so, and I'm obsessed with them. So there it is, the difference: they drape loosely, aren't precious (i.e. I'm totally fine when therm looking wrinkly) and make me feel cool. I recently thrifted a tencel blouse for shoulder seasons and also own a Lyocell denim shirt I frequently wear. Sooooo, long story short, I think I may have to let go of my fantasy self and declutter those 2 crisp shirts still hanging in my closet. "What if" makes it hard to do, but it may be time….Thanks for helping me through that thought process, and sorry for the long, rambling message. 😊❤
I love how you emphasize finding your own personal essentials — for me that definitely does NOT include a button up shirt in any shape, form, size, material, or color. I’ve tried 10,000 of them and never, ever feel happy in the silhouette. Part of finding your essentials is letting GO of a whole category even when it’s on ALL the essential lists!!! 😆 Some of my personal essentials are striped tops, pea coats, crossbody bags, and ballerina flats ❤
Such great advice. Every time I would look at a basics list and see cami’s I’d buy one thinking maybe this time I’d find the perfect cami that I’d wear. After much wasted money I have finally come to the realization that, I don’t like cami’s. I don’t feel like myself in a cami. However, I have a large collection of turtleneck’s both long sleeve and sleeveless. Those I wear all the time. 🥰👍🏻
Good advice here
Have really been enjoying your videos. Challenging myself to sell off all the the things I don't wear to rebuild a thoughtful, minimalist wardrobe of things I love with the proceeds. I don't see the discount code for the Nordgreen watches, apologies if its obvious and I've missed it. Can you reshare?
You absolutely nailed it in this video, Alyssa. Would love a part 2
Hi Alyssa, loved your wide leg jeans with front pockets. Can you put the link of where you bought them please. Thank you
Can you please tell us where your camel blazer is from? I love the silhouette!
I have been hanging on to blazers I hated for so long because I was convinced it was a must if I wanted a basic classic fashionable wardrobe. You have set me freeeeeeee
You totally solved my problem with a button shirt. Holy crap. 🤯🤯 why didn’t I think of looking for a drapey fabric rather than a stiff classic shirt ??? I’m embarrassed to admit I’m so dumb about this!! 😅😅😅 thank you!!
Love this channel, great concept and the city is gorgeous..
I would love to know the brand of your camel blazer. It’s just stunning.
I have so many mistakes in my wardrobe it just isn't funny but that said I have a few essentials that I'm keeping thanks to you. I myself try not to go with fads but sometimes I err because I think it will make me feel so good and it really doesn't. Button down shirts are my go to and tee's but I have such a hard time making them work for me. I have to say that you've opened my eyes a lot especially with purchasing ethical clothing and second hand stores. Thank you again for helping to shed light on fashion you always have such excellent presentations.
Thank you. I have been watching fashion videos for a while and just can’t bring myself to buy the white button down shirt. I have broad shoulders and smaller waist. Just can’t live in those shirts. I have been considering silk- do now I’ll pursue that. 🤗
Uh oh looks like you have a spammer running down the comments…
This was sooooo helpful! I’d love a pt2 to this video. I love the look of a blazer but they just don’t work on me I always lean more toward a long cardigan I feel validated now. Lol
I really enjoy your channel and many tips in hybrid video were amazing! However as someone with a big chest that requires a very specific kind of button up shirt, I don’t think you nailed it on the tips for the curvier among us. How about a collab with Jessica Neistadt? She know how to rock a crisp white shirt even with a big chest to waist ratio.
My dearest, when your boobs are big, your button down almost has to be over size. Agree with fabric change, makes a huge difference.
Definitely agree in thrift thing in the men’s section especially for oversize blazers and or shirts.
Knowing your body took me years, I love the boho classic look, definitely vintage.
Oversized anything looks great as long as you balance your outfit.
I’ve never owned a denim jacket !! Hummm!!! Don’t really know why.
I have a short torso and legs for day. I go for mid-rise jeans.
Xoxo
What you said about the shirts spoke to my soul❤!I always found classic shirts stiff and cold but it's been some years now that I have built quite a collection of soft blousy shirts in patern and chambray, not a single white! Great for layering too😉!
💯 agree that you need to be true to your personal style. We are all unique and wear what is truly you rather than try to wear that it's really you but because it's looking nice on someone else you think you should wear it as well.
I always wondered why I loved the look and idea of button down shirts but never felt they worked on me. It's because my words are romantic, classic, & comfortable and traditional button downs are not romantic or comfortable for me. Now I am going to look for a nice silk button down because I feel like the soft fabric is more comfortable and romantic for me.
The oversized shirt style is also great for those with wider mid body or curvy structure, especially when longer and can be styled with leggings or slim pair of pants/ denim! Also I have done away with the tucking because that works better for slim women. Adding a belt can polish up an untucked shirt with a pair of black tight jeans or leggings. My style, my rules! More comfortable I am, more confident and stylish I feel.
My biggest complaint about the classic button up shirt is that I can never find one without breast pockets (at least in my size)! I absolutely HATE them! As someone with a larger chest, those pockets are just unnecessary.
I love denim shirts and just invested in a beautiful silk shirt. I always wear button up chiffon shirts that don’t have the classic collar
Thank you for being size inclusive in your example photos. Makes it much easier for me to envision how the ideas relate to me as a plus sized woman.
You need small breasts to get your look.
I adore a silk button-front shirt, especially with long sleeves for year-round wear. I just got beautiful safari-style (two chest pockets and epaulettes) ones, one in beige and one in khaki, from Lily Silk, they have a beautiful suede-like nearly matte finish. (I also got the dresses in the same style and colors). I prefer these more casual finishes/weaves and styles than shiny charmeuse ones with fancy details, which feel a bit formal. Silk is so comfortable and drapey and doesn’t need ironing, so I wear these much more than my cotton ones, which need a ton of ironing to look decent. Once one starts wearing silk, other fabrics feel annoying, silk is addictive!
I love the structure of a classic-fit blazer, I always feel frumpy in cardigans, except for the new waist-length ones. The combination of long length and no structure in cardigans is dowdy.
